Diwali is a very special day for millions of Indians living all over the world. Diwali, known as the “Festival of Lights”, is the biggest festival of the year in India. This five day festival commemorates the victory of good over evil, and is an occasion for prosperity and family togetherness. However, ensuring a safe celebration is a must. Read through for tips to enjoy the festivities without compromising your health and safety.

    1. Air and Noise Pollution:
At this juncture of increasing air and noise pollution buy as little firecrackers as possible, that will help you spend less and will stop you from polluting our environment. Too much noise pollution is harmful for everyone, especially senior citizens. Dispose of the used firecrackers immediately and carefully.

    2. Dresses & Garments:
Bursting firecrackers is something everyone including children and adults enjoy. Good quality firecrackers reduce the risk of a dangerous mishap. To avoid any accident with fire it is good to wear cotton clothes and stay away from synthetic material.

    3. Supervise children:
Before taking your children out in the open to burst crackers, instruct them about the usage of firecrackers and appropriate ways to do so. Supervise them and take necessary precautions at the fun time with crackers to avoid burn injuries.

    4. Keep First Aid Kit:
Keep a first aid kit handy while kids are enjoying the fireworks to treat the minor injuries at home. It might sound a bit fancy, but wear earplug to refrain from the excessive noise which may damage your ears in the long run.

    5. Have a Fire extinguisher:
Having a fire extinguisher in close proximity to the area where you are bursting firecrackers is essential. Even a bucket of water or sand would be useful to tackle an unexpected fire. Never burst firecrackers in a closed area. It can lead to a massive hazard in case of fire breaking.

    6. Avoid Excessive Sweets:
Diwali festival brings a lot of gifts and sweets, Sweets are hard to resist, so choose sensible gifts and low calorie sweets /snacks instead of ghee-laden one. Keep the intake of sugar and starch minimal. Avoid sweets that have ‘silver’ coating and chemical preservatives.

    7. Candles and Diyas:
Diwali is all about beautiful candles and diyas spreading their light and happiness. However, keeping lit candles and diyas at home can cost you dearly at times. Make sure that there aren’t any curtains or inflammable materials close to them.

    8. Save Birds and Pets:
Pets are a part of the family for animal lovers. But Diwali can be an agonizing time for the birds and animals due to the extreme noise all around. Try to sensitize your pet to the noises beforehand and keep them away from firecrackers.

    9. Sensitivity and Care:
Use low-noise firecrackers to be sensitive to your fellow neighbors and friends. Better to say ‘No’ to alcohol and gambling, as any excess is easily possible in celebration. Avoid a hangover and the risk of driving while intoxicated.

    10. Make it Joyful:
Diwali is a festival of joy so make it special especially if there has been any unpleasantness with your family or friends in your past. Shed all your inhibitions and misgivings and make a fresh start. Wish them a ‘Happy Diwali’ and embrace them in joy.
Spread happiness on Diwali and celebrate this beautiful festival safely with your loved ones. Enjoying the festivities with your family and friends is something everyone enjoys. Happy Diwali.
